ABOUT US
Recipes 4 Learning, Inc. was a dream and project of the heart by founder, Lisa Basini, owner of several Long Island businesses, most notably The Baking Coach, Inc. which offers classes and private teaching lessons for baking and cooking.
Since 2005 The Baking Coach has offered fun and engaging food-based programs in libraries, schools and in partnership with nonprofit organizations. It was through one of The Baking Coach lessons that planted a seed for Recipes 4 Learning. Lisa recalls attending High School graduation for her son, when fellow classmates excitedly remembered how Lisa had taught them math using cookie decorating back in the 2nd grade. It was a simple and fun afternoon that became a lasting memory for those students.

As a result of that encounter the wheels of an idea for a nonprofit began to turn in Lisa's mind. She envisioned a program that not only provided memorable lessons for elementary-aged children, but also to also create a job skill training program for young adults in Special Education programs who were aging out of High Schools to manufacture the cookie.​
At Recipes 4 Learning they refer to these young men and women respectfully as, people with different abilities. One of these amazing people is Lisa's own son. Having navigated through the transition from the educational setting to a more enriching, independent lifestyle for her son made Lisa aware of the lack of opportunities for real-life vocational training, stable jobs and compassionate employers.

Lisa designed Recipes 4 Learning as a full-circle community program that supports different groups of people: a hands-on learning workshop for young students, vocational training for Special Seniors and supportive employment opportunities for young adults with different abilities as they help to create the cookie kits. In addition, Recipes 4 Learning offers volunteer engagement with High School students looking to meet community service requirements by also assisting in assembling cookie kits.

Recipes 4 Learning is helping to build awareness of people with different abilities in local communities, enriching so many lives and creating lasting memories.
